BOGDAN IACOB

Bogdan Iacob (b. 1979) is an art historian and professor at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. Graduated in History and Art History from the Faculty of History and Philosophy, Babeș-Bolyai University (2001), he has obtained his PhD (2011) and habilitation (2022) in the field of visual arts (history and theory of art) and is the author of several studies and books, including the volume A Coat of Many Colors. Essentialism versus Constructivism in Recent Definitions of Art.

Concerned with the intellectual understanding of art from the perspectives of history, anthropology and the dynamics of complex systems, he has been directly and practically involved from his role as curator. His curatorial portfolio includes more than 50 exhibitions, organized in private galleries in the country and in Europe (Galeria Sector 1 in Bucharest, Galeria Jecza in Timișoara, Mie Lefever Gallery in Gent, Belgium), as well as in museum institutions (Museum of Art Cluj, MODEM Debrecen). Co-founder of the curatorial program Galeria Șoimii Patriei, dedicated to debut artists, he has also curated exhibitions that included artists of reference for Romanian art of the last decades.
