ANA BĂLAN

Ana Bălan (b. 1998) graduated from the graphics section of “Nicolae Tonitza” School of Arts in 2017, then obtained a degree in visual arts from Ecole Cantonale d’Art Lausanne (ECAL) in 2021. She currently lives in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ana creates large installations and focuses on the contrast between fragility and strength, by using different materials (plush / wood, wax / wire, linen / ceramics). Allegory is the foundation of her work – abstract ideas are illustrated in a concrete manner. In 2021, she started a solo music project, born out of a passion for noise pop and performance. She has had concerts in places such as Espace Arlaud (Lausanne), Fondation Beyeler or Grand Théâtre de Genève, for Art Genève Musique. She is currently working on an album that will be released with No Salad Records, an independent record label based in Lausanne.“On synthetic “no no, no new wave” layers, Ana Bălan sings of ghosts from here and there. Then, as if nothing had happened, you’re singing too.” – Jean-Claude Jaquettie.
